The existing skatepark at Memorial Park will undergo a transformation this spring! Council is committed to keeping the existing park open to riders until such time the new and improved skatepark is open this summer.
Key Dates:
April 6 to 18 - feedback is open
April 23 - results shared to design team
May 3 (estimated) - early site works begin
July - estimated skatepark construction
We want to hear from you
We are committed to ensuring this much-loved amenity continues to offer safe, uninterrupted enjoyment to the community now and into the future. Over the past few months, we have worked closely with the skatepark community group and received early feedback about potential improvements they would like to see to enhance the existing design.
These new improvements are designed to accommodate all abilities and include additional space for potential programs/use that could occur to make it more vibrant and active space.
Benefits of new design:
Love the bowls? Great, because they will be maintained with a few minor improvements:
Introduce a mini ramp at one end of the smaller bowl
Open up entrance to allow for better flow and safer crossings
Introduce the "Island" feature to allow for looping circulation around the street lanes
Added elements to increase functionality and use from beginner, intermediate and advanced riders
Bank features for variety and to maintain skateboard flow
Additional flexible space to accommodate recreation and cultural programming (specialized sport camps, outdoor market, outdoor fitness, and special events), or serve as overflow skate area when not in use by others
The early days of the preliminary design confirms the existing skatepark will be in conflict with the future construction of City Hall/Library Building.
To keep the project moving forward, a Prequalification Contract Tender for construction is underway. This allows for pre-construction works to progress while the design is being finalized.
