How do I find out more information about the Paid On-Call firefighter program?

    Attend West Kelowna Fire Rescue (WKFR) in-person Information Session. WKFR staff and firefighters will be there to answers any questions you may have.

      Doors open: 6:00 p.m.

      Presentation: 6:30 p.m.

      Location: Glenrosa Firehall Station #34 - 3399 Gates Road

    I will not meet all the qualifications at the time of application but anticipate meeting them before the end of the process. Can I still apply?

    You must meet all qualifications at the time of application to be considered in this competition.

    Can I apply if I am not a resident of West Kelowna?

    No, your primary residence needs to be in West Kelowna or Westbank First Nations to qualify.

    Do I need to live within a certain distance of a fire hall?

    To be eligible for the program, you need to live within West Kelowna or Westbank First Nation. Depending on where you live, you will report to the hall closest to you. Typically, people who live south of Daimler Road will report to Station #34 (Glenrosa) and those who live north of Daimler Road will report to Station #33 (Rose Valley).

    Do I need to attach all of my supporting documentation when I submit my application?

    Yes, you need to attach the required documentation when submitting your application online

    • Resume, cover letter and contact information including full name, full address, email and phone number
    • References (include in resume)
    • Doctors consent form (Found on the information page)
    • Copy of Drivers License and Drivers Abstract (ICBC Website)

    Do I need post-secondary education?

    Post-secondary education is not a mandatory requirement.

    How long is the hiring process?

    Although it may vary in length, please expect the hiring process to take approximately 3-4 months.

    Is there a cost for applying?

    There is no cost for applying. Candidates will be responsible for any fees that are required throughout the recruitment process.

    I am not able to see my family doctor until after the application deadline, is there an alternative option for getting a completed and signed Doctor Consent Form?

    Yes, applicants are able to see any doctor (including at a walk-in) in order have a completed and signed Doctor Consent Form for their application.

    What kind of physical testing is required?

    Physical testing for the Paid On-Call program consists of a modified beep test, dummy drag and a hose drag inside the bay at Fire Station #34 (Glenrosa). For the test, you will be required to bring appropriate clothing, footwear and water/snacks that you may need. 

    West Kelowna Fire Rescue is hosting an Information Session and is encouraging all interested applicants to attend to learn more about testing and the training program. You'll also have the opportunity to speak with current members. The session is being held at Fire Station #34 in Glenrosa (3399 Gates Rd) on Nov. 30. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. and the presentation begins at 6 p.m.
