The Sanitary Master Plan is a long-term planning document that helps the City make sure the sanitary sewer system can continue to safely and reliably serve residents today and into the future. The City is updating its Sanitary Master Plan to help ensure West Kelowna's sewer system can continue to meet the needs of our growing community.
The plan assesses how well the existing sewer system is performing, identifies areas that may need improvements, and recommends upgrades or replacements of aging infrastructure.
Background
The City's current Sanitary Master Plan is being updated to reflect changes that have occurred since the previous study in 2014, including new infrastructure, updated development plans and population growth.
The outcome of this work is a series of recommended system improvements developed to maintain reliable service, address aging infrastructure, and support anticipated development within key growth areas of the City.
The plan will help the City:
Review the condition and capacity of the existing sanitary sewer system
Identify future infrastructure needs based on projected community growth
Evaluate lift station upgrades and sanitary main replacement priorities
Identify where sewer capacity may need to be increased
Prioritize upgrades to aging infrastructure
Improve the reliability and long-term performance of the sanitary sewer system
Support informed planning and investment decisions
Have Your Say
Residents will be asked to provide feedback on topics including:
Familiarity with the purpose of the Sanitary Master Plan
What stands out in the plan
What might be missing in the plan
Additional comments or suggestions regarding the plan
The survey will remain open from July 16 to Aug. 6.
Public feedback will help the City understand residents' priorities and local knowledge of the Sanitary Master Plan. Community feedback will be considered alongside technical and financial analysis before the plan is finalized.
Next Steps
Following public engagement, the City will:
Review and summarize public feedback
Refine the draft Sanitary Master Plan where appropriate
Finalize the plan
Present the plan to Council for consideration
Use the approved plan to guide future sanitary infrastructure planning and investment
