Why do we need to update the Rec Trails Master Plan?
It’s been a decade since the first Rec Trails Master Plan was developed. It is now time to update it to reflect all the changes we’ve seen in our community such as increasing demand, changes in technology, growth in our city, and more. In a growing city like West Kelowna, a recreational trails plan is an important tool for maintaining and creating recreational connectivity, even as the city continues to evolve.
Why are you updating the Parks Master Plan at the same time?
The Parks Master Plan, developed in 2016, also needs an update. Since parks and recreational trails are closely linked, it makes sense to plan for these assets together. It also makes for a more streamlined process so you can share your input on both at the same time! Learn about the Parks Master Plan process here.
How does a Rec Trails Master Plan fit within the overall City planning framework?
Good question! A Rec Trails Master Plan is one component in how the City manages community assets and prepares for growth. The graphic below illustrates how key City strategies are interconnected.

Why are you engaging the community? How can I be involved?

Please complete the Rec Trails Questionnaire to share your input before June 23, 2023 and join us at our upcoming public open house and pop-up events! Your input will inform the Draft Rec Trails Master Plan that will be shared for review in fall 2023.
