Project information at a glance:

  • Project scope and design
  • Construction schedule (mid-April 2021 to September 2021)
  • Business access open

Project Scope

The $1.32 million construction contract includes construction of a roundabout at the Gellatly-Carrington Roads intersection, minor in-stream storm work improvements to Smith Creek, and a proposed 3.0 metre wide multi-use asphalt pathway from Witt Road to Boucherie Road.

As part of the design for the Gellatly-Carrington intersection, a thorough review of the current and future traffic demands for the intersection for all vehicle types and other alternative modes of getting around was completed. This independent review took into consideration the near term and what we could expect in the next 20 years.

Detour information

Construction is expected to begin April 19, with completion scheduled for September 2021. Construction will include closure of the Gellatly-Carrington Roads intersection weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. with the possibility of some weekend work to reduce the closure timeframe. The intersection will be open to the public on evenings, weekends and holidays.

Traffic Management Plan

With the Gellatly-Carrington Roads intersection closed to the public during construction work hours, detour routes will be put in place for approximately 10 weeks starting mid-April.

Benefits of a Roundabout:

  • Pollution Reduction - Significant reduction in vehicle idling resulting in less gas is being burned into the atmosphere
  • Safety - All vehicles travel in the same direction, never crossing paths. This reduces the number of series crashes. Slower speeds also provide drivers with more time to react and make decisions.
  • Community Benefits - Roundabouts provide traffic calming measures and reduce speeds
  • Improved Traffic Flow – Reduce required idling times at intersections.
