We’re continuing to invest in safer, more connected streets for everyone in your neighbourhood.

As part of our continued investment in active transportation, The City of West Kelowna is planning improvements along Brentwood Rd. (from Ross Rd. to Alhambra Dr.) as a key council priority to connect school zones with sidewalks and enhance active transportation networks.

About the project

This work is being done as part of the City’s annual Pedestrian Improvements Program which aims to improve pedestrian safety and connectivity to schools and neighbourhood centres.

We’re working closely with local stakeholders, including nearby property owners, utility providers, schools, and community organizations, to help guide the design.

The project is expected to include:

  • Construction of a new sidewalk along Brentwood Road.
  • Installation of new streetlighting to improve visibility and safety
  • Possible upgrades to the transit stop along Routes #20 and #29
  • Adjustments to driveways and road edges to match the new sidewalk
  • Curb and gutter development as well as addition of underground stormwater infrastructure
  • Coordination with utility providers and key stakeholders to support construction

Construction schedule

The project is currently in the design phase.

Anticipated timeline includes:

  • Begin construction in late August
  • Completion is targeted for late November

Construction time will be confirmed once design is complete.

The construction schedule may be subject to change due to weather conditions, contractor availability, and other factors.

What to expect during construction

Construction may result in temporary inconveniences such as noise, dust, dirt, vibration, and increased crew and equipment activity for a short amount of time.

Residents and road users can expect:

  • Single-lane alternating traffic (no full road closure anticipated).
  • Temporary removal of on-street parking during construction, with some areas not reinstated afterward.
  • Continual use for pedestrians staying on the opposite side of the construction
  • Maintained access to properties, with minor interruptions for construction activities.
  • Continued access for transit and emergency vehicles throughout construction.
  • Traffic control personnel on site as needed.

Every effort will be made to ensure driveways connect smoothly with the newly established sidewalk such that homeowners’ access to their driveways is unaffected.

The City of West Kelowna will implement a traffic management plan and communicate any traffic changes to the public in advance.
